The iPhone 12
Predicted to be unveiled in Spring 2020, the iPhone 12 will be the “best smartphone Apple has ever released.” Let’s get into the features and rumours that have been revealed.
Features & Rumours
We are getting closer to Apple’s next generation of phones and we’re all excited about what is coming. To start off, Apple will release 4 new smartphones that will be called the iPhone 12.
Colours
There’s a new colour coming. With last years yellow, purple, green and the 11 Pro’s Midnight Green. This year will include a ‘Navy Blue’ which will give the iPhone a new splash of colour.
Alongside the new navy blue finish, light blue, violet and light orange could join the release with the classic gold, white and space grey.
iPhone 12 Design & Display
Design
From the past few Apple smartphones, the iPhone 12 is going backwards in shape and design. Following the new iPad Pro 2020, the frame will be similar to the iPhone 4 with a flat edge.
This generation will still include the lightning cable port and not a USB-C port. But there are rumours that the 2021 smartphone will completely miss the USB-C port and go completely portless.
Some other iPhone 12 design rumours that it will include:
- Larger Camera Lenses
- A slight change in button locations
- Larger antenna lines to be the first iPhone with 5G Connectivity
- A14 Chip
Display
These 2020 smartphones will be equipped with OLED displays. These displays could incorporate the ProMotion Technology that runs at 120Hz refresh rate.
The screen sizes are expected to be as follows:
- 5.4 inch - iPhone 12
- 6.1 inch - iPhone 12 Max
- 6.1 inch - iPhone 12 Pro
- 6.7 inch - iPhone 12 Pro Max
Cameras
With last years triple camera system, and this year there will potentially feature a 3D depth sensor. Similar to the 2020 iPad Pro (LiDAR Scanner). The camera system will be slightly larger but that comes with improved performance.
The pro models could include 3x zoom on the telephoto lens. As a result, this is an improvement to the 2x zoom on the 11 Pro models. Also, with enhancements in low-light photos and stabilisation.
iOS 14
iOS 14 is expected to be revealed at the WWDC 2020 Conference. This operating system will be released with the 2020 iPhones and here is an in-depth video on everything you need to know about iOS 14.
What’s in the iPhone 12 Box?
Unfortunately, Apple might be removing the EarPods in this year's release. This is to improve sales and demand for AirPods and AirPod Pros. Who knows, Apple could be generous by including AirPods within the box (very unlikely).
Otherwise, the box will include the usual:
- The iPhone 12 Device
- Charging Cable and Outlet Plug
- Apple Instructions/Warranty, etc.
Pricing
The iPhone 12 devices will be rumoured to cost:
- iPhone 12 - Starting at approx. AUD $950
- iPhone 12 Max - Starting at approx. AUD $1100
- iPhone 12 Pro - Starting at approx. AUD $1400
- iPhone 12 Pro Max - Starting at approx. AUD $1600
These prices could change and also depend on the amount of storage the customer would like to purchase. Remember, these are only rumours on the iPhone 12.
