Volunteering and giving back is so much more than just spending money, it is a rewarding and life-changing experience.
You don’t need to have lots of money to help, you just need a little motivation.
Every year, the team at Fonseka Innovations takes part in STEPtember, and this year was no different. What is STEPtember you ask? STEPtember is Australia's leading health and wellness fundraising event that supports the lives of children and adults with cerebral palsy. We encourage everyone to get involved next year!
Like all charities, money is raised for an incredible cause. In this case, taking part in STEPtember provides vital equipment, research, therapy and services, giving back to those who need it most.
To do all we can to help, our team created a friendly competition to encourage completing 10,000 steps and staying active each day. Both teams reached their final goal of 280,000 steps each. We encouraged our friends and family to participate by donating to the cause and in total, we raised $2,253. Although September is over, you can still donate to STEPtember and help children and adults with cerebral palsy here. If you would like to see each teams individual results, our teams are StepDotCom and Stepify.
Why is giving back so important?
Firstly, volunteering, donating and taking part in charity foundations not only gives back to a community in need, but it terms of STEPtember; it will challenge you to do 10,000 steps per day. This friendly competition encourages many to participate and stay active while also gathering donations from friends and family.
Secondly, the simple act of giving back even a small sum raises support for a range of initiatives and helps improve someone's quality of life.
Thirdly, by participating in charities, you are creating opportunities to meet like-minded people who believe in the same causes as you. You will feel a sense of purpose and become active members of your community, having a lasting, positive impact on society. Community service and volunteerism enable you to acquire life skills and knowledge.
As well as positively impacting and giving back to those who need it most, working to build a better society and a better world for everyone.
At Fonseka Innovations, we are proud to support local charities and organisations including Hummingbird House, OAAQ, World’s Biggest Garage Sale, and providing real-world experience to many university students. Find out more about how we support these organisations on our Social Enterprise page.
